Snippets from Books I'll Most Likely Never Write

           I have this horrible habit…

I get these tiny inspiration moments and I think up little scenes and snippets that are so beautiful and perfect (in my mind, anyway), the problem with this? Well, I haven't thought up a book to go with these snippets, I haven't even thought of a plot.
Honestly, I probably could fill a whole book with random snippets from my head and notebooks! But here are just a few of them, because, why not? Maybe it will inspire one of y’all!

“But why? Why does she do so much for me, even though we've never met?” she asked, staring at the elderly gentleman.
“Someone once told me that the saddest people are the kindest most helpful people you'll ever meet.” he answered softly.
She felt a rush of confusion, his answer didn't solve any of the mystery of the old beggar woman. “Why?” she squeaked.
The gentleman smiled, leaning forward slightly, “because sad people know how it feels to feel worthless.”

He sighed, leaning against the graffiti covered wall. The streets were silent past midnight, all he could hear was the thud of his own heartbeat and the deafening sound of nothing. Before today he had felt all kinds of emotions, sadness, anger, hate, remorse. But now he felt simply numb, and he knew deep down that this was way more dangerous.

“You're strong, you can do this.” her father had told her, right before he stepped into his car and drove out of her life.
Now, at age seventeen, Kendall sat staring out of the cracked window, remembering her father's last words. “Yeah, sure, dad.” she whispered bitterly, watching the snow fall onto the dirty sidewalk. “If I'm so strong, why do I always end up crying? Even back then there was something wrong, and even back then, I was good at lying.”

He stood a few feet away, staring at the gravestone, of the woman who should have been his mother.
“I wonder what it would sound like for you to say that you love me,” he murmured, letting the single rose he was holding slip from his grasp, it landed softly on the weed covered ground. “But of course, I'll never know.”

“This life is full of broken things,” he said, smiling.
She laughed, dipping her paint brush into the black paint, and throwing the brush at her painting of the old man. “Broken things, and paint splatterings.”
         “Sounds almost poetic.”

*Looks up and realizes how depressing half of the snippets were* I guess ever book needs a breaking point for their characters, right?
Anyways, I had a blast writing this post, so if y'all want a part two, maybe I can do happy snippets or something? Just a thought.

EDIT: Part two of this post is now up! Read it HERE.

So, were they any good? I can't tell anymore...
Did you have a favorite?
And should I do a part two??

Happy Writing,

Seriously, though, these were beautiful. I'm just finishing up a writing session of a snippet, thinking I did okay, then I come on over here and see beautiful snippets that I now need to be books. *flails*

Definitely do a part two. This was just fantastic. I think I'm fan-girling a little bit. And I don't even know the characters, the context, or anything else!

    1. Lol! Thanks, I do like them... who knows? I might just sneak them into a book one day!

I'm sure your snippet was awesome-they have a tendency to be!

I'm glad you liked them, I hope to do a part two!!!

    2. Aw. *Blushes* Thank you. Its just a snippet for a story idea that I'm not sure I'll even pursue. At least, I might take the characters and place them somewhere else.

These snippets were amazing. I think my favorite is the one about a girl who's father left. I could picture everything happening as I was reading. :D

    3. I feel the same way about these snippets, but I just noticed that the last one has a title in it... (Of Broken Things and Paint Splatterings), so I'm thinking that's a win and something I should look into... I've never had a WIP with an actual name before I started the first chapter!

      Thank you! XD

    4. Well, there you go. :) I think titles are harder for me. I come up with something random that I know I will replace. Truth Seekers had many titles and might still have a title change.

One of the titles (the one I remember) was something like Fighting Back. I had another one that started with an R, but I don't remember it now. I'll have to see if its still on the other computer I used to use. Probably not, though.

    5. Titles are super hard for me! I usually don't come up with a decent one until the very last chapter of my books!

    6. Mine just change frequently throughout writing. Truth Seekers came about because the organization I was writing needed a name, too. So I just used that. It can be so frustrating. I think Of Broken Things and Paint Splatterings is an awesome name.

  3. Oh yes, I do it too. I literally have notebooks, both physical and digital devoted to plot bunnies and sometimes a snippet or two. You have some really poignant stuff here Gray! I would love to see more!

  4. OH MY GOSH GRAY!!!!!!!!!! These are amazing!! The pictures you put along with each snippet were wonderful also! I have a notebook dedicated to snippets also but they are mostly song lyrics that I think of.

You should totally do a part two!

  5. I thought I was the only one!!! I do this all the time, write snippets that are connected to no book...

These were all so achingly beautiful <3 But through them I can see you hide a little bit of sadness? Your heart just showed right through and that's what touched me so much. Wow you have talent Gray! Please keep sharing because you grabbed my attention!

      Thanks again! :)

  7. You HAVE to write these books! I know that the inspiration falls away, but if you wait out long enough, slow pieces of the story will reveal itself more!

Also, just a head's up: I'm revealing two things on the blog tomorrow! One is a tag idea I've been working on for some time, and the other is an actvitity that the blogging community did last year, so if you'd like to check that out, it'll be up on my blog then! ^.^

We have the opposite struggles, I can come up with story ideas, but exactly writing them is a whole different story!!

  14. This happens to me too! I have all these ideas all the time, but I find it so hard to put it all together into an actual story! Like, sometimes I have an idea for an "amazing" character, but I can't seem to put them into a story. Or sometimes I have an idea for a storyline, but I can't come up with good characters for it. Oh well... writers' problems I guess? XD
By the way I loved reading the snippets, they're so good, you should definitely do a part two of this!

  19. The snippet that went with the girl sitting on the snowy brick wall makes me think it would be for your novel called.....something.. "games". Uhhh! I can't remember. It would go perfectly with the novel you had started of the girls father purposefully leaving he places to test how smart she was. Except for the part of him walking out of her life.
Those were very inspiring (and sad). I hope you do a part two next week!
    You write very well.

    2. I dunno, but that WIP sounds very interesting. Your little snippets are intriguing. It's so crazy how we come up with so vivid scenes and story plots. It's cool to hear what ideas other writer's have and hear what interests them.
I definitely can't wait for part two. These are probably one of my favorite posts you've done.

    3. Thank you, it was an interesting idea... I might return to it in a couple of years.

It is super crazy and awesome!

I can't wait to post part two, I plan on sometime next week. And thank you, it makes me happy to hear that!!

    4. It's all what you want to write. If you don't like something then you won't write well for it. You need to have a storyline that YOU enjoy. A lot of times if you really have a passion for an idea or a story, you'll do all you can to complete the story, idea, or task. Whatever the situation is, this applies a lot of times. So, to sum it all up, enjoy what you want to write, or you may not put in all the effort to work towards the goal. If you don't like what you're writing, but know it'll change other's lives, then that may push you to finish something.

I can't wait either!!! I'll be searching for it.

And now only is the idea brilliant, but you executed it brilliantly as well! THESE SNIPPETS ARE GOLDEN. Yes, some of them are depressing, but they're the kind of aching sadness that just strikes the soul in a perfect way. I love this so much. <3
